August 14, 2007 edition of Arts and Stuff Carnival

carnival

Welcome to the August 14, 2007 edition of Arts and Stuff carnival.

I am so pleased with the entries I received for this carnival with more artist submitting a post. I have to admit there were plenty of music posts as well but unfortunately this blog isn't about promoting music. Nor is it about art that may offend my readers so those that do, they are wasting their time and should submit to a carnival more appropriate with the subject matter. wink

There will be more carnivals on this blog but I am not going to list the new date just yet. The next two months this blog will be sadly lacking in posts although once it is all back to regular posting, I will announce a new carnival date so please be patient with me on this matter.

So there you go; any artist out there reading this you will have plenty of time to put a post together and submit it to my carnival. It is VERY easy to do! carnival submission form

Tess is Famous!

For those that follow my SnapShots blog you will have seen this photo of Tess, the working dog.

Why am I showing this photo here? Well Wendy Prior is using this photo as a reference and drawing a portraiture of Tess with coloured pencils on drafting film. You can find the first post of this work in progress by clicking here so why not hop on board and follow Wendy's progress. biggrin

This is a timely subject as well because I do encourage you to take a look at my SnapShots blog because the photos are free for artists to use and sell there artworks afterwards. It is good to get feedback from those that are using my photos because it encourages me to find the best photos that I can present to you.

Also something else is happening! I had never done a blog interview before and thought it would be a good learning experience and said yes when Vyoma from kalaalog Blog asked if I would participate. The resulting interview can be found here.

The last item I want to bring to your attention is about my recent Blog Carnival because it has quite a bit of activity in the comments section. If you are considering submitting a post to my Carnival, you may find answer to your question by reading the reply in the comments of the Carnival post. If you would like to know more or add your own thoughts, please leave a comment at that Carnival post.

Arts and Stuff Carnival - July 12, 2007

Welcome to the July 12, 2007 edition of arts and stuff carnival.

I would love to see more 2D artists submitting to this Carnival that relate more to my own blog. It is a chance to see your articles/posts published and gain more exposure. It isn't hard to do and when you give it a go you will realise how quick and easy it is to do.

So come on, have you a watercolour, oil, pastel, pencil or any other medium that you would like to talk about, perhaps with advice, works in Progress or what you have learnt that you could share with us. There is so much out there that you artist are already writing about, Carnivals are about sharing it with a community that otherwise may never get to see your work or your blog for that matter.

If you would like to submit an article my next edition deadline is 12 August 2007 and will be published 14 August 2007.

Click for carnival submission form and see how easy it is.

Welcome to the February 14, 2007 edition of Arts and Stuff Carnival.

Marty Weil presents Interview with Art Deco Travel Brochure Collector David Levine posted at ephemera.

D.A.N. presents Untitles Abstract Ink Experiment #2 posted at Sights & Sounds from the Fifth Column.
"This is part two of my exploration of technical abstract ink drawing. This one had a small challenge in that it was designed to be no more and no less than 10 lines that cannot cross."

Philosophy and Thoughts about Art

D.A.N. presents I Could have Made That: Why I Don?t Get Minimal Art posted at Sights & Sounds from the Fifth Column.

Note: This is an interesting article and worth reading, Susan
"So what exactly is minimalism as it applied to art? Basically it is based around the concept of “Less is More.” This concept can be applied to anything from paintings to sculpture and allows the artist to use only the most basic elements that are required to create the desired effect."
Andrea Dickson presents Buying and selling art on eBay posted at Wisebread.
"What would you say if I told you that I filled my entire living room with completely original works of art for less than $300? We're not talking kid's stuff - no crayon drawings, no attempts at self-expression. Art by real and struggling artists, both schooled and self-taught?"
Dan presents It takes Determination, not Talent, to Make Great Art posted at EmptyEasel.com.

Julie Heath - More4kids Inc. presents Bonding With Your Kids Through Arts And Crafts posted at More4kids.
"Arts and Crafts are a great way to bond with kids, especially when the whole family get involved. These days kids (and parents too) are so consumed with technology that they often don’t even know what making crafts means. Crafts can be a great idea for family time, especially in the winter when we don’t go out so much. Here are some of the benefits and some ideas for your family ‘craft’ time."
Derek Andrews presents Repetition as a design element posted at The Tool Rest.
"One of the simplest methods of making our work more visually interesting is to repeat a motif."
Best Post for Unrelated Story to "Fine Art"

Laura Young presents I Got Out of the Tub posted at Dragon Slayer, saying,

"How did a hobbyist photographer get a cover shot on a magazine? Fortune favors the bold. Remember there is a difference between having a theory of breathing and actually breathing. Here's an example of what can happen if you just take that first step."

Welcome to the January 8 2007 edition of Arts and Stuff Carnival.

Welcome to the January 8, 2007 edition of Arts and Stuff Carnival!

Admittedly when signing up to the Blog Carnival early December it had me scratching my head as to how it all worked. My first edition was back on the 4th of December 2006 and as it was a tentative test, I posted my own story without advertising it here. This edition today is what I consider is a new journey of being a serious Carnival blogger that will be posted once per month. As more stories are submitted I may consider posting editions more often.

Very interesting!
"
What caught me unaware was how many submitted to my carnival before even posting my next addition date
"

What caught me unaware was how many submitted to my carnival before even posting my next addition date. Even though the stories were excellent they didn’t all fall into the category of what my carnival is about. In saying this I did come up with an idea of picking the best post for unrelated story for "fine art" to add at the end of my edition. Please be aware that all information provide by the authors has not been researched further by myself and is up to you to take the information as true or false.

What is a blog carnival?

  • It is a collection of posts on a topic that I and many other bloggers have chosen to host on a blog.

  • Carnival bloggers submit to myself or other members of Blog Carnival using a submission form with this example by clicking on Arts & Stuffs.

Why do it?

  • Participating in Carnivals is a great way to promote your own blog because a published topic will generate traffic from the host blog for your published submission.

  • Blog Carnival itself promotes participating blogs with a direct link back to editions that the hosting Carnival blog has posted.

  • It connects you to other bloggers of the same interest as yourself.

  • Adds additional interest to your own blog

Art Creativity

Laura Young presents Are you Creative? Developing Your Creativity, Part 1 posted at Dragon Slayer's Guide to Life.
This article is the first in a series that has been featured in the book: A Guide to Getting It: Creative Intelligence.

Teaching Art

Nick Franklin presents Amateur Illustrator : Community of Illustrators posted at AmateurIllustrator.com
The story I want to create is centered around the terrible subject of cancer. I don’t want to be morbid in my tale, but I definitely want to portray the seriousness this disease represents (hopefully in a non-intimidating manner). This way children and parents could read this together and potentially gain some insight from my experiences. I do not want to teach a lesson, or preach to anyone.

Nick Franklin presents Amateur Illustrator : Community of Illustrators posted at AmateurIllustrator.com.
Nina Paley’s career began in 1988 with her self-syndicated comic strip, Nina’s Adventures, which appeared in several alternative newspapers and two paperback collections, Depression is Fun and Nina’s Adventures.

Nick Franklin presents Amateur Illustrator : Community of Illustrators posted at AmateurIllustrator.com.
In this lesson we are going to look at some elements of good character design. This is not a drawing tutorial. This lesson illustrates principles that are the building blocks of good character design. Understanding them will help you in developing a process of good design in which drawing is only the last step.
I divided this lesson into two phases: the conceptualizations phase that deals with understanding your character and the realizations phase which deals with bringing it to life.

Show us your Art
D.A.N. presents Untitled Black & White Photo Gallery - Abstract and Artistic Photos posted at Sights & Sounds from the Fifth Column - Music, Art, Articles & More.
This photo series is a set that I took while in my first year of college for an artistic photography class. I don’t take a lot of photos but for some reason this set of 17 continues to have some of my favorite pictures.

Best Post for Unrelated Story to "Fine Art"

Amanda presents ChaCha: World's Worst Search Site posted at Take A Five Minute Break, Then Relax.
The worst idea of a search site to ever cross my path. Certainly this could be useful to those who couldn't turn on a computer, much less search for something simple on the Internet. ChaCha is Indiana's idea of a cruel joke. You use real live guides to help you search for whatever it is you don't know how to go Google yourself for.
