How time flies!

Wow I can’t get over the amount of time that has passed since my last post.

Blogger has kindly given us some new templates to play with and hope you like the new look. It took me ages to work out what design to settle with and felt this one gave a nice clean visual, so decided to keep this one. I will tweak the colour to suit my work at a later time.

Even though I haven’t been blogging, painting is still high on my priority list with numerous paintings done throughout the year. Tomorrow is a big day with the opening of the Painters of the Flinders Ranges exhibition opening in Port Pirie of South Australia. I am also working towards the annual exhibition at Wilpena Pound later in the year. The painting above is a part of the Port Pirie exhibition.

An effort is going to be made to update this blog often, although daily will not be an option because I found it does put a lot of pressure on my artwork. I do use Facebook and you are welcome to join me there. Please let me know where you found me so that I know to accept your friendship. I tend to turn people away on Facebook if I think it is a random invite from someone I have nothing in common with.

Take care, Susan

The Painters of the Flinders Ranges exhibition that I am involved in will be held in this large shearing shed near Wilpena Pound in September. It is not a working shed anymore and belongs to the National Parks. It is hired out for a range of functions; the exhibition being one of them for a period of four weeks.

This photo was taken last year and as old as the shed looks it makes a very good venue to present our artworks representing the Flinders Ranges. It is really great listening to the positive remarks as visitors walk through the door. Even though the shed hasn't had sheep pass through it over a number of years, the lanolin smell from the wool still remains.... oh and the sheep poop aroma as well.lol

Tess arrived in the mail safely from New Zealand Tuesday just in time for Malcolm's birthday yesterday (Wednesday). Malcolm was thrilled to receive this gift with plans to frame it as soon as he has finished cutting out moldings, mats and glass for myself. Wendy if you are reading this I can't thank you enough for your effort that you have put into the drawing of Tess. What I see on your blog is what I received and can recommend your work to anyone that wants a portraiture of their pet.

The Art Gallery - Wilpena Woolshed

I have caught up now with many of my chores that needed doing after arriving home so it is now time to concentrate more on my art. There are three commissions to paint of which will not be shown as works in progress as I would rather not have the pressure of show and tell on the internet while working on them. Two are oils and one is a pastel. I also will be working on other things while waiting for paint to dry and of cause these will be shared with you.

Somewhere in all this I have to do the farm GST bookwork…… grumble grumble………As many know I hate bookwork!!!

Three photos below show the Wilpena Woolshed and my paintings hanging on the wall. The woolshed belongs to National Parks, hence the artist have to make sure that we do not add to the demise of the shed by further damage. The holes in the shed iron are actually sealed with clear filler so that our paintings are safe from the elements. It is truly a wonderful experience working as artist in residence under the roof of this woolshed. The tourists get a real kick out of it as well.

I am home!

Just a very quick note to let you know that I am home. Yes I know I am late but I have a good excuse; the exhibition ran a few extra days longer and over all it was a great success.

May I say the red wine at the end of each day with my fellow artist and their partners and friends that we accumulated along the way is something that I will always value. I can’t wait for next year…wink!

Once I catch my breath there will be photos posted over the next few days.

See you all then.

Exhibition Preperations

Today was spent in the office compiling a mailing list for the Painters of the Flinders Ranges exhibition that begins with an opening on the 16th of September at the Wilpena Woolshed at Wilpena Pound and running for a month. The mailing list is long but there is room for more if you would like to attend. This will be the fifth year exhibiting at the Wilpena Woolshed.

These jobs, which are one of many, are not particularly my favourite pastime but at the end of the day if I want to sell paintings, it is part of the cause.

During the time of the exhibition I will be working as artist in residence as well as sales person along with other members of the network that will be rostered on at different times during the exhibition. I am lucky enough to have the freedom now (perks of getting older) to stay in the area until the close of the exhibition. My husband Malcolm will also be able to spend more time with me during the 4-5 weeks, because our son and his partner are now helping to run the family farm, which will free him up from some responsibilities.

Last year I spent a little over two weeks at Wilpena during the exhibition; hence this year will be a test case for me with the length of time away from home... interesting times ahead; maybe I won't want to come home at all... chuckle
