The Painters of the Flinders Ranges exhibition that I am involved in will be held in this large shearing shed near Wilpena Pound in September. It is not a working shed anymore and belongs to the National Parks. It is hired out for a range of functions; the exhibition being one of them for a period of four weeks.

This photo was taken last year and as old as the shed looks it makes a very good venue to present our artworks representing the Flinders Ranges. It is really great listening to the positive remarks as visitors walk through the door. Even though the shed hasn't had sheep pass through it over a number of years, the lanolin smell from the wool still remains.... oh and the sheep poop aroma as well.lol

Tess arrived in the mail safely from New Zealand Tuesday just in time for Malcolm's birthday yesterday (Wednesday). Malcolm was thrilled to receive this gift with plans to frame it as soon as he has finished cutting out moldings, mats and glass for myself. Wendy if you are reading this I can't thank you enough for your effort that you have put into the drawing of Tess. What I see on your blog is what I received and can recommend your work to anyone that wants a portraiture of their pet.

Tess and Secret Art Business

Tess - 8x10 inches on drafting film in coloured pencil -
Copyright - Wendy Prior
With permission by Wendy Prior to publish on this blog

In my last post I mention that Wendy Prior is using a reference photo from my SnapShots blog and drawing a portraiture of Tess with coloured pencils on drafting film. Wendy has given me permission to post the completed drawing here and hasn't she done a magnificent job! Pop over to Wendy's post called "Tess, completed" and click on her thumbnail to see a larger image of Tess and while you are there, leave a comment as I am sure Wendy will appreciate it.biggrin

My husband Malcolm was quite taken with Tess's eyes when I showed him the first stage of Wendy's drawing asking if there was any further updates as each day passed. With this the idea came to me to buy this portraiture of Tess from Wendy if she hadn't sold it as a gift for Malcolm's birthday later this month. Thankfully I was in time and Tess will be posted tomorrow to my sons address so that Malcolm doesn't find out. Just as well my husband doesn't surf the internet nor use a computer or he will find the emails Wendy and I have been sending each other as well as Tess plastered all over the internet. lol

Yes Tess is plastered over the internet! Take a look at these two threads at WetCanvas and you will see what others have to say about this coloured pencil drawing.
Gee I nearly was caught out as Malcolm just brought Tess in to see herself on the internet. Bit of quick thinking to bring up a image without Malcolm reading any text going on here.....phew and he was so busy trying to keep Tess calm that he didn't get a chance to see Wendy's post before I clicked on the thumbnail of Tess so that the large image came up.eek Did Tess see herself? No she was so busy trying to get my attention that the laptop was ignored. wink

Tess is Famous!

For those that follow my SnapShots blog you will have seen this photo of Tess, the working dog.

Why am I showing this photo here? Well Wendy Prior is using this photo as a reference and drawing a portraiture of Tess with coloured pencils on drafting film. You can find the first post of this work in progress by clicking here so why not hop on board and follow Wendy's progress. biggrin

This is a timely subject as well because I do encourage you to take a look at my SnapShots blog because the photos are free for artists to use and sell there artworks afterwards. It is good to get feedback from those that are using my photos because it encourages me to find the best photos that I can present to you.

Also something else is happening! I had never done a blog interview before and thought it would be a good learning experience and said yes when Vyoma from kalaalog Blog asked if I would participate. The resulting interview can be found here.

The last item I want to bring to your attention is about my recent Blog Carnival because it has quite a bit of activity in the comments section. If you are considering submitting a post to my Carnival, you may find answer to your question by reading the reply in the comments of the Carnival post. If you would like to know more or add your own thoughts, please leave a comment at that Carnival post.

Tagged!

Katherine Tyrrell from Making a Mark has tagged me. How it works I tell you seven things about myself that most people don’t know. I then tag seven people to do the same and ‘they’ mention who tagged them in their own blog post, as I have done my mentioning Katherine’s name with a link.

Update: Lesly Finn from Pastel and Paint: Lesley Finn's Art has tagged me since posting here. I hope you enjoy what she has to say....... I know I did!

So here we go…..what little secrets can I tell you all…..mmmmmmmm

  1. Many moons ago when I was a very young kid I remember hugging a tree branch from underneath when all of a sudden the limb broke. I fell to the ground while still hugging the branch and wandered if I was ever going to be able to breathe again because the wind was knocked out of me. When I could catch my breath I didn’t dare go to my dad for sympathy who was telling me not to climb the tree before hand because I knew I would end up with a sore backside as well for punishment. Now young adults, my own kids take great delight in telling me stories of mischief they used to get up too

  2. I grew up in the outback of Australia and used to say to my grandmother that I would marry a farmer because it was as much civilization that I wanted and I did! No I did not run around the countryside looking for a farmer to marry; it was something I did not recall until my grandmother reminded me when I did wed my husband.

  3. I like a ‘see food’ diet although not always the ideal diet for the waistline!

  4. I rarely play a computer game but give me a ‘software or hardware problem’ or ‘how do you’ question related to programs and I just have to solve it – alas not always successfully.

  5. I am a Chronic Fatigue sufferer but hey I choose to not let that weakness rule my life…..anyway it was the reason that I took up painting in the first place because it gave me peace of mind. To this day I am protective that my art does not become an unpleasant task and take that peacefulness away. Because of this I will step back some days from my art responsibilities and ‘smell the roses’.

  6. About a week before starting my own blog I had little knowledge of what blogs were about. I like to think that my writing skills have improved since my first post.

  7. I can not tolerate spiders of any shape or size and the hairy ones are the worse. My husband (Malcolm) once chased me with a huntsman spider to the point that I became hysterical and screamed. Thankfully he realises he does not want his eardrums puncture and now does not get his kicks out of scaring the sh*t out of me by chasing me around with a spider. Um one night he did wonder why I was belting him up while I was still sound asleep….. yup even dreaming about spiders I can’t stand them!

Ok here we go, now I am going to tag seven people if they also would like to play. Hopefully when checking your blogs, I didn’t miss a post that you had already been tagged.

  1. Bart Westgeest from I landscape blog who from my very early days of blogging has been a faithful commenter on my blog.

  2. Robyn from Have Dogs, will Travel blog who has some wonderful sketches and a variety of other posts.

  3. Rita Woodburne from Purple Tastes Good blog; a coloured pencil artist who’s work I do enjoy.

  4. Madelaine Fedorowich from The Art of Madelaine blog has been a favourite of mine for a very long time. Check out her Lighthouse Park WIP that she is working on. I am watching closely myself because I am using the same technique on my large oil.

  5. Linda Blondheim from Landscapes from the South blog is a tireless poster and generously posts tips.

  6. Karen Margulis from Painting my World blog is a wonderful pastel artist that I have admired for her beautiful work.

  7. Penny from My Boots and Sketch Book blog is about an Aussie artist who I only recently found and do enjoy reading because it sometimes sounds so familiar to my own life.

Wendy Prior Original and it's all mine :D

The Bay - 8 x 10 inches in coloured pencil on drafting film -
Copyright Wendy Prior

Doesn't this coloured pencil work add some class to my blog? I just wish I could say that I did this work myself because eyeballing the original that turned up by snail mail today just blows me away. I emailed the artist of this work Wendy Prior for permission to post her image to my blog, which she generously said yes.

How I came about buying this work, Wendy's decided to have a major clean out with a studio Sale. This post is where I saw "The Bay" and promptly made a purchase.

Looking at the image on my graphics monitor and comparing it to the original I can truly recommend purchasing Wendy's work from her website because the reproduction is spot on. I am astonished with the fine pencil work that she uses and know that I am going to learn so much from this piece.

Thank you Wendy for the opportunity to buy one of your original works. biggrin

I Love these Dirty Pictures

Hey get you mind out of the gutter, it is all about art! biggrin

If artist Scott Wade drew on my car I would never want to wash it again....nor get it dirtier for that matter!

Check out his website , in particular the Dirty Car Art Gallery; there is some really cool drawings.

Julian Beever's is another Artist who likes to use an unusual support for his drawings. You can see some amazing 3D sidewalk drawings by going to Pavement Drawings website with many thumbnails to click on for a larger view.

In the previous post I said about pain in my right leg; well tomorrow X-rays will be done on it as it is no better. I am sort of getting used to living with the pain now though some days it does get on top of me, especially at night when it seems worse and I want to sleep.

One thing I do know, I need to force myself to start painting again even if sitting while doing so. Finishing the pastel that is nearly finished is a good place to start....... just not tomorrow as by the time I get home from attending two appointments in Port Pirie plus take advantage of the trip and stock up the pantry, the day will be nearly gone. sad

Hopefully soon this blog will be back on track with regular post and thanks for your patience while waiting.
