Ancient Red Gums near Melrose "WIP" three

The sky colour has now been completed, which is time consuming working in and around the dark foliage.

When my son had a look at what I was doing he said he didn’t think he would have the patience, me I found it quite relaxing.

Anyway with the sky now done I can concentrate on the foliage with mid and light tones plus work in the remainder of the trunks and twigs.

Hopefully there will be another update tomorrow. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is beautiful. I'd be tempted to leave it as it is, with the negative shapes and tree branches so dominant. I like the relative simplicity of this composition very much.

Really beautiful Susan, I'm glad to see you painting again, hope your feel better now! I always enjoy waching your paintings come to life, love the colours and light you use.

It really is beautiful at this stage aswell with the simplicity and negative shapes, as Laura said. But I gotta admit I look forward to see the details as you progress...

Thanks guys for your lovely words.

Merethe I am fighting fit now, which I am very grateful with two extra people living in the house.

It is interesting that the negative shapes were mentioned as I liked them as well and did wonder if I should explore that area sometime in the future. I just have to work out how to get my head around the idea as I am so used to painting realism as I see it.

I hope to project a calm and peaceful scene to the viewer so I don’t think this painting will be as busy as some I have done in the past.

Ah, Susan, so lovely to see you painting again! I've been wondering if you were ill. I'm so glad you're feeling better.

This painting is AMAZING! The colors in the trunks of the trees are just wonderful, as are the shapes in the foliage and the tones in the sky. I can't wait to see the rest of it.

Hi Kim, still around but not posting as much on forums as I feel there is just too much going on in my life lately. The blog though I like to keep up to date when there is something to post.

Your comment has well and truly given me a buzz. I noticed you are still busy as ever with your own work. Congratulations on your year. You have come a long way and I admire you for it.
